Lots of news to get to this morning…including us making a bit of an exception when it comes to NFL coverage on CAAFootballblog.com. Normally we reserve the headlines and news for our current student-athletes and programs, but after two UMass alums made headlines with their play in the NFL preseason we had to jump on the frenzy.
Over the weekend former UMass safety and two-time CAA Football First Team selection Jeromy Miles made some news by delivering a spectacular hit on Broncos rookie QB Tim Tebow. Click here to watch the video…the hit is delivered around the 1:43 mark and replayed as well.
Last night another UMass alum, Victor Cruz, who also was a First Team All-CAA Football selection each of the last two years, made NFL preseason headlines. The wideout for the New York Giants caught six balls for 145 yards and three touchdowns in the Giants’ 31-16 win over the Jets. Cruz became the first NFL player to record three TD’s in a preseason game since Terrell Owens did it in 1998 with the 49ers.
The undrafted rookie was a trending topic on Twitter Monday night and drew the eye of one Lebron James. James, who tweets at @KingJames, wrote this during Monday’s action: “Victor Cruz (@TeamVic) going nuts on the Jets tonight on #MNF. Undrafted rookie from UMass. He’s gonna have a job this year for sure.”
To top it all off Cruz was all over the SportsCenter highlights of the game and wouldn’t you know it garnered the No. 1 spot on Top-Plays! Watch all of that below.
Now on to the CAA Football news
